MAHILEU, Belarus -- The eastern Belarusian city of Mahileu is in shock after the dismembered bodies of two women were found last week, RFE/RL's Belarus Service reports.
Locals found the first decapitated body of a woman wrapped in linen near a river on March 23.
Another woman's dismembered body was found near an apartment block shortly thereafter.
Belarusian Interior Minister Anatol Kulyashou told journalists on April 2 that there is no evidence to suggest that the crimes were committed by a serial killer.
He said both women have been identified and an investigation is under way.
But Mahileu Oblast deputy prosecutor Ala Kuznyatsova said it had been decided to investigate the two murders as one case.
She said the women might have been killed one after another by a mentally disturbed person.
