QARAGHANDY -- The director of a government forensics center in central Kazakhstan has been shot dead, RFE/RL's Kazakh Service reports.
Police said Meiram Shakirov was shot twice by an unknown assailant as he entered his office in Qaraghandy at around 9 a.m. local time today.
Police said the murderer managed to escape.
They said a preliminary investigation points to a contract killing.
