Kazakh Families Face Eviction In Almaty

ALMATY -- Twenty-four families living in a private dormitory in Almaty face eviction as a district court confirmed its previous ruling that the families are staying their illegally, RFE/RL's Kazakh Service reports.

The dormitory used to belong to an Almaty taxi company and was privatized to the relative of a former city mayor for a symbolic price, the families facing eviction told RFE/RL.

The dormitory was later sold to a third owner.

Residents of the dormitory say they will not abide by the court decision "because they have no place to go."
