CHISINAU -- Moldova's opposition Communist Party says it will boycott two structures that are working toward the country's European integration in protest of what the Communists perceive as unfair treatment of their leader, former President Vladimir Voronin, RFE/RL's Moldova Service reports.

The pro-Western parliamentary majority on December 29 blocked Voronin's election to Moldova's permanent delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.

The Communists responded by withdrawing all their members from that delegation. They also threatened to withdraw their representatives from an EU-Moldova parliamentary committee.

Dumitru Diacov, the deputy chairman of one of the four parties in the ruling coalition, said in parliament that by blocking Voronin's membership in the PACE delegation the government is paying the Communists back for similar decisions the Communist Party made against them in the past.
