OSCE To Monitor Parliamentary Elections In Turkmenistan

The OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) says it will send five experts to Turkmenistan on December 7 to help monitor the country's parliamentary elections.

An ODIHR spokesperson has told RFE/RL's Turkmen Service that the delegation will be in Turkmenistan for 10 days.

The ODIHR team will be supporting the OSCE center in Ashgabat observe the parliamentary elections on December 14, and will be the OSCE's most extensive monitoring of elections there.

There is only one legal political party in Turkmenistan, which remains the most authoritarian country in Central Asia.
