Russia Captures One Of Far East Vigilante Group

Russian security forces have captured an alleged member of a group of anti-police vigilantes suspected of being behind a series of attacks on police in the far eastern Primorye region.

Vladimir Savchenko told RFE/RL that his 18-year old son Roman was detained by police today.

Russian media reports said more than 150 policemen have been deployed in the manhunt for the gang.

The group of at least five men -- whom the Russian media have dubbed "partisans" and compared to Robin Hood -- is suspected of three attacks on police that killed one and wounded three others, apparently motivated by a grudge against police.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
