Russian Police Search Offices Of Local Newspaper

Police in the Russian city of Samara have searched the offices of a local newspaper, "Samarskaya gazeta," RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

The editor of the newspaper, Sergei Kurt-Adiyev, told RFE/RL that the search might be connected with his professional activities, namely with his critical stance toward local authorities.

Officials say that the editor is under investigation for the alleged illegal use of nonlicensed software.

Kurt-Adiyev used to run the Samara branch of the independent newspaper "Novaya gazeta," but the publication has since been shut down by the local authorities.
