Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is set to begin a visit to Syria and Turkey.

In Damascus, Medvedev is expected to meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Russian presidential aide Sergei Prikhodko said the talks between the two leaders are expected to focus on trade and economic cooperation, military-technical cooperation, and the prospects for Middle East peace negotiations.

Late on May 11, Medvedev is expected to leave Syria for Ankara, where he is expected to hold talks with the Turkish leadership.
