Tajik Official's Son Jailed For Fatal Auto Accident

DUSHANBE -- The Sino district court of Dushanbe has sentenced Bobur Azimov, the son of Tajik National Security Council Secretary Amirqul Azimov, to five years in prison, RFE/RL's Tajik Service reports.

Azimov will also be deprived of his driver's license for at least three more years after his jail term.

Bobur Azimov -- himself a former prosecuting investigator in the Sino district -- was charged with killing two people and injuring several others in a car accident in the center of Dushanbe in August.

Having been free on bail until his sentencing on April 17, he was arrested in the courtroom after the trial and taken to jail.
