KABUL -- A U.S. military delegation led by Admiral Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, visited Afghanistan's Wardak Province on April 23, RFE/RL's Radio Free Afghanistan reports.
Wardak Governor Alim Fedai said that it is the first-ever visit by a U.S. military official of that rank to the central region, which is threatened by Taliban insurgents.
Fedai said the delegation met with U.S. troops who were recently deployed to the area.
Afghan officials told the U.S. delegation that the region needs assistance in training national police force officers.
The delegation reportedly expressed a readiness to focus on the issue, adding that the U.S. military will also launch projects on economy and infrastructure development in the area.
