Turkmenistan Funds School, Hospital In Afghanistan


MAZAR-E SHARIF, Afghanistan -- Turkmenistan is funding the school and also a hospital in two Afghan provinces populated largely by ethnic Turkmen, RFE/RL's Turkmen Service reports.

Turkmen government officials have attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a school and hospital in northern Afghanistan.

Turkmen Deputy Foreign Minister Wepa Hajiyev attended ceremonies with a state delegation, and Afghan education official Mowlami Pahreddin told RFE/RL that the all-girls school will provide the first nine years of education when it is finished.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
