The husband of a female Afghan lawmaker is refuting reports that she has been abducted by insurgents.
Mohammad Dawood, the husband of Friba Ahmadi Kakar, told RFE/RL’s Radio Free Afghanistan on August 11 that reports of her kidnapping while traveling between Kandahar and Kabul were "propaganda."
He said his wife, a parliamentarian representing Kandahar, left for Turkey on August 10 as part of an official visit planned by the parliament.
But the head of the local assembly in Kandahar Province, Saeed Jan Khakrezwal, says Kakar's husband is mistaken.
Khakrezwal told Radio Free Afghanistan that Kakar stayed in Kandahar during Ramadan and did not go to Turkey.
He said Kakar's four children, her driver, and a cook also were kidnapped by gunmen as they were traveling through Ghazni Province.
