Lives Upended: The Deadly Armenian-Azerbaijani Cross-Border Conflict In Images

Tensions remain high along the northern border between Armenia and Azerbaijan after days of deadly skirmishes between the two former Soviet republics. At least 16 people on both sides have been killed since cross-border clashes erupted on July 12. It marks the most serious outbreak of hostilities between the neighbors since 2016.

The two South Caucasus nations fought a 1988-94 war over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. But the latest clashes have been far from that territory. Both countries have blamed each other for the latest violence.
