Two Azerbaijani Officers Severely Injured By Mine Blast

Azerbaijani military officials say a mine explosion along the border between Azerbaijan and its separatist ethnic Armenian Nagorno-Karabakh region severely injured two Azerbaijani officers.

Officials said one of the officers lost his leg in the blast on June 11, while the other's arm had to be amputated.

The incident was reported as the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said its positions along the Nagorno-Karabakh separation line came under 24-hour shelling by Armenian armed forces.

No casualties were reported.

There was no word on the Azerbaijani reports from the Armenian Karabakh side.

At least nine soldiers on both sides were killed in shootouts along the Azerbaijani-Armenian border and Nagorno-Karabakh border last week in a surge of tensions over the unresolved decades-old conflict, which has been simmering since a 1994 cease-fire.
