WATCH: Azerbaijani Police Clash With Protesters In Mingachevir (natural sound)

Police clashed with residents in the Azerbaijani city of Mingachevir on August 22, two days after a young Azerbaijani man was found dead after being questioned by local police.

Police used tear gas and sound bombs to disperse the crowd who called for the head of police, Alasgar Badalov, to step down.

Police have arrested several protesters.

Video footage released by the police shows 27-year-old Bahruz Haciyev entering a police station on August 20.

Police say the man jumped out of a window while being interrogated. They do not specify why he was being questioned.

Haciyev’s father told RFE/RL's Azerbaijani Service that his son had multiple bruises all over his body. He alleges that the police beat him to death and then threw him out of the third floor window of the police station.

His funeral took place early on August 22.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
