Ex-Official Of Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry Detained In Russia

Police in Moscow have detained a former official of Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry who is wanted in Baku for alleged embezzlement.

The Russian Interior Ministry said on January 10 that a 49-year-old citizen of Azerbaijan was detained at Moscow's Domodedovo airport while trying to leave for a foreign country.

Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry has identified the man as Ilqar Yadigarov.

The man is suspected of embezzling some $125,000 while serving in Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry.

Russian police said the suspect has been residing in Russia's Siberian region of Irkutsk with forged documents since 2011.

Police said he tried to escape from Russia via Moscow because he felt the authorities were closing in on him.
