Three Dead, More Than 400 Injured In Egypt Clashes

Over 30 people have died in the recent rioting.
Three people were killed and more than 400 injured in Port Said on January 27 as thousands attended funerals for 33 people killed in two days of rioting sparked by death sentences handed to supporters of a local football team.

Police fired tear gas to disperse demonstrators, as crowds attempted to storm police stations and others set fire to an army club.

Local medical chief Abdel Rahman Farag said three people, including an 18-year-old man, died of gunshots.

Farag said 416 people suffered from tear-gas inhalation and 17 sustained gunshot injuries.

The riots were triggered by a decision by a Cairo court to sentence 21 men to death for involvement in deadly clashes between soccer fans in Port Said one year ago.

Some 74 people were killed in the clashes on February 1, 2012.
