Georgia's Vladimer Khinchegashvili snagged a gold medal in Rio's 57-kilogram men's freestyle wrestling tournament, beating silver medalist Rei Higuchi of Japan.

Two wrestlers --Hassan Rahimi of Iran and Haji Aliyev of Azerbaijan -- took home bronze medals from the event on August 19.

Khinchegashvili is the reigning world champion and was the silver medalist at the London Olympics four years ago.

He is only the third Georgian to win a gold medal at the Olympics.

"It's the best feeling ever," Khinchegashvili said. "My dream just came true."

Iran's Rahimi said he had hoped to score a gold medal after beating two-time world champion Victor Lebedev of Russia earlier in the games.

"After fighting against one of the hardest competitors that I had -- Russia -- I thought I would be able to win the gold here, but I believe the weight of the Olympics is a lot for me," he said. "I'm glad I'm not going back home empty-handed."
