QARAGHANDY, Kazakhstan -- The trial of two former local Kazakh officials charged with high treason has begun in the northeastern city of Qaraghandy, RFE/RL's Kazakh Service reports.
Qaraghandy Oblast Court Chairman Yermek Serekbaev told journalists the trial was being held behind closed doors because top-secret documents are involved. He also did not disclose the identity of the defendants.
The Qaraghandy Oblast Court press service said the defendants were charged with undermining the country's economic security by passing top-secret documents to foreign agents.
