Kubat Otorbaev, the general director of KTRK, gave no reason for his decision to resign.

The general director of Kyrgyzstan's National Television and Radio Broadcasting Corporation (KTRK) has resigned.

Kubat Otorbaev told RFE/RL on July 24 that he asked the KTRK's Observing Council to release him from his post as of August 1.

He gave no reason for his decision to resign.

The Observing Council's chairman, Ilim Karypbekov, told RFE/RL that Otorbaev's resignation had been accepted, adding that the council had started looking for an acting director of KTRK.

Otorbaev was appointed to the post after popular antigovernment protests in Bishkek toppled then-President Kurmanbek Bakiev in April 2010.

Prior to that Otorbaev worked as RFE/RL's Bishkek bureau chief.
