A new video has emerged showing one young man apparently shot dead and another wounded during a clash with police in the western Kazakh city of Zhanaozen on December 16.

According to official figures, at least 16 people were killed and more than 100 were injured, including 17 police officers, during the unrest.

The video, posted on YouTube on December 29, shows two young men lying on the ground -- one motionless, with a bloodstained shirt, the other bleeding from his foot and crying out in pain -- as gunshots can be heard in the background.

A group of people surround the young men but move away quickly. The last image appears to show police approaching the area.

The images show the same square that has been seen in earlier videos of the December 16 events in Zhanaozen. The uploader of the video is not known to RFE/RL.

On December 29, the Prosecutor-General's Office announced it was investigating allegations of police using excessive force to deal with the unrest.
