Romanians are casting their votes in a two-day referendum on whether to change the constitutional definition of marriage from "a union between spouses" to "a union between a man and a woman." The proposed change would prevent any attempt to legalize same-sex marriage through legislation. Orthodox Patriarch Daniel cast his vote in Bucharest on the first day of voting on October 6. The Romanian Orthodox Church and other advocates of the amendment claim it will restore "normalcy" in society. After voting, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila left a polling station in the capital without making any comment.
