Turkmen Wrestler Disqualified For Using Banned Drug At Asian Games

Turkmen wrestler Rustem Nazarov has been named as the first athlete at the Asian Games in Jakarta to test positive for using banned performance-enhancing drugs.

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) said on August 24 that 24-year-old Nazarov, who lost in the quarterfinals of the 57-kilogram division, was disqualified from the competition after testing positive for the use of the banned substance diuretic furosemide in a test before the games.

The substance is used to eliminate water and salt from the body, which would have helped Nazarov lose weight and qualify for his weight class.
