Ukrainian Official Charged With Abuse Of Office


KYIV -- The chairman of a Kyiv district council has been charged with abuse of office, RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service reports.

The Kyiv city prosecutor's office announced today that Viktor Pylypyshyn was charged with abuse of office resulting in the loss of 15 million hryvnyas ($1.85 million) to the city treasury.

Pylypyshyn, the chairman of Kyiv's Shevchenko district council, was officially charged on April 21.

Meanwhile, the press service of the movement "Kyivans Above All!" that Pylypyshyn heads told journalists today that Pylypyshyn was taken to the emergency room of a Kyiv clinic after police attempted to arrest him at a hospital where he was being treated for high blood pressure.
