TASHKENT -- Articles in the Uzbek language on the Wikipedia website have not been accessible in Uzbekistan for several weeks.

RFE/RL correspondents report from Tashkent that all articles in other languages are easily accessible on the free online encyclopedia, while those in Uzbek seem to have been blocked.

There have not been any official statements about the blockage.

In all, there are 7,876 articles in the Uzbek language on Wikipedia.

Uzbekistan, with almost 29 million people, is the most populous country in Central Asia.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
