Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev (file photo) 19 October 2004 -- Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said today there are no unresolved political problems between Russia and Azerbaijan.
Speaking at the second session of the All-Russia Azerbaijani Congress in Moscow, Aliyev stressed that Russian President Vladimir Putin should largely get credit for this.

He said the two countries agree on most issues. Putin, who is also attending the Congress, said Russia is interested in a stable and economically strong Azerbaijan.

He said Russia wants a friendly relationship with its southern neighbor and called for increased economic cooperation.

Putin noted that cultural cooperation as well as scientific, educational, and sports exchanges furnish the basis for political dialogue and for stronger strategic partnership.

The president also called for a resolute struggle against nationalism. The two presidents are due to have formal talks later today.
