Suicide Bomber Injures Two In Afghanistan

(RFE/RL) 2 January 2006 -- Officials in Kandahar say a suicide bomber targeting a convoy of foreign troops blew himself up and wounded at least one woman and child today in the center of the southern Afghan city.

U.S. military spokesman Mike Cody said one American soldier received "minor injuries" in the attack.

Asadullah Khan, the governor of Kandahar province, said at least one military vehicle was slightly damaged.

A spokesman for the Taliban, Qari Mohammad Yousuf, told Reuters the bomber was a Taliban guerrilla and the blast killed five U.S. soldiers.
