4 January 2006 -- Belarusian President Alyaksandr Lukashenka today accepted the resignation of his chief of staff.
Viktor Sheiman's resignation has been expected since he was named head of Lukashenka's campaign for reelection some weeks ago. The law forbids government officials from holding two posts simultaneously.
Lukashenka named Gennady Nevyglas, the current secretary of the Security Council, to replace Sheiman.
The Belarusian leader is running for a third term in the March ballot.
