Afghan Army Kills 16 Taliban

Aftermath of a bombing in Spin Boldak in October 2005 (AFP) March 22, 2006 -- Afghan government forces have killed 16 Taliban insurgents in mountains near the border with Pakistan.

One soldier was wounded during the clash, which occurred on late on March 21 near the town of Spin Boldak.


General Abdul Raziq said the operation was a preemptive strike following intelligence reports that the insurgents were preparing to launch a number of attacks.
