Six Afghan Police Officers Killed In Kandahar

(RFE/RL) April 21, 2006 -- Six Afghan police officers and a U.S. soldier have been killed since April 20 in separate incidents in Afghanistan.

Police officials said militants ambushed a highway checkpoint overnight in the southern Kandahar Province, killing six police officers.


Meanwhile, the U.S. military in Afghanistan reported on April 21 that one of its service personnel was killed and an Afghan soldier was wounded in a clash with militants in the central province of Oruzgan.


Also on April 21, Afghanistan's Defense Ministry said troops had arrested 19 militants, including several suspected Taliban members, during raids in the country's south.
