Afghan Judge Shot Dead

(RFE/RL) May 3, 2006 -- A senior Afghan judge has been killed in the western province of Farah.

Sheik Mohammad was gunned down by unidentified men on a motorbike late on May 2.

The governor of Farah, Ezatullah Wasfi, "the enemies of Afghanistan" had killed Ahmad, employing a term government officials use to refer to Taliban and other antigovernment militants.

The Taliban have launched a series of attacks in recent months but security officials say a significant amount of the violence stems from land and water disputes, the illegal drugs trade, clan feuds and business disputes.
