Coalition Says Over 40 Taliban Killed In Past Week

A British soldier inspects the aftermath of a suicide car bombing in Kabul (file photo) (epa) June 10, 2006 -- U.S.-led coalition forces in Afghanistan say they have killed more than 40 militants in clashes over the past week.

In the largest, in the southern province of Zabul on June 5, more than 30 Taliban fighters were killed.


The coalition said 14 other Taliban were killed in clashes in the neighboring province of Oruzgan on June 8.


Taliban militants have stepped up attacks in recent weeks, resulting in more than 400 deaths in the past month.
