Russia Could Accept Economic Sanctions Against Iran

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov (file photo) (epa) July 20, 2006 -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says Moscow could agree to UN economic sanctions against Iran if Tehran fails to respond to an international package of commercial and technical incentives intended to persuade it to stop enriching uranium.

The offer was presented last month by the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, plus Germany.

Lavrov told the radio station "Ekho Moskvy" that Iran should realize the "attractiveness of the proposals."
