Iraq To Build More Oil Refineries

One of the numerous instances of a pipeline being sabotage over the past three years (epa) August 21, 2006 -- Iraq's oil minister says the country plans to begin exporting gasoline and other oil by-products by 2010.

Husayn al-Shahristani told a meeting today of the Iraqi parliament's Economy Committee that new refineries will be built and existing ones improved.

He also said the production of crude oil should increase from 2 million barrels to 3 million barrels per day by the end of this year. He acknowledged, though, that attacks on pipelines remain a problem.
