Afghan President To Visit U.S.

President George W. Bush (left) with Afghan President Hamid Karzai in Kabul this March (AFP) August 22, 2006 -- Afghan President Hamid Karzai has accepted an invitation from President George W. Bush to visit the United States.

A date for the visit was not announced.


Karzai's office says Bush made the offer in a telephone call that focused on the fight against terrorism and rebuilding Afghanistan.


Karzai's office said Bush assured the Afghan leader of Washington's "continued and long-term" support.
