Belarus Clinches Military Deals With Venezuela

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez (right) during a visit to Belarus in July (epa) September 18, 2006 -- Belarus says it has signed military contracts with Venezuela worth more than $1 billion.

Security Council Secretary Viktor Sheiman said a cooperation agreement on oil extraction was also agreed.


Sheiman, who visited Venezuela earlier this month, told Belarusian television that Minsk had established a foundation to continue the "fruitful" cooperation between the two countries.


He did not elaborate on the details of the agreements.
