October 9, 2006 -- Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev's daughter -- an influential lawmaker -- today said she favors a greater balance between the executive and legislative branches of power.
Darigha Nazarbaeva told reporters in the Kazakh capital, Astana, that she believes the president must remain the "supreme arbiter of power," but that some of his powers should be transferred to parliament.
Nazarbaeva is a member of the state commission in charge of drafting proposals to amend Kazakhstan's constitution.
