December 11, 2006 -- Independent news reports from Uzbekistan say a number of small protests have taken place in the eastern city of Andijon.
The ferghana.ru website says shortages of electricity and natural gas prompted a group of mainly women and children to take to the city's streets.
The uznews website says some 50 women protesters blocked one of Andijon's central streets on December 9 to demand that heating be restored to their homes.
