Pakistani Officials Warn Musharraf About Taliban Threat

Pakistan soldiers on patrol in the North West Frontier Province (epa) June 30, 2007 -- Pakistan's Interior Ministry has warned President Pervez Musharraf that without "swift and decisive action" the Taliban will soon spread across all of Pakistan.

"The New York Times" reported today that the warning came in an Interior Ministry document, which said security forces in North West Frontier Province were outnumbered and had forfeited authority to the Taliban.

The paper said Musharraf had seen the document, and it quoted a diplomat as calling the text "an accurate description of the dagger pointed at the country's heart."
