September 9, 2007 -- The Minsk city Prosecutor's Office says a Belarusian opposition leader, Andrey Klimau, has been sentenced to two years in prison for insulting the president and calling for revolution.
The charges stemmed from articles posted on the Internet.
The former lawmaker has been in and out of jail since he helped lead an unsuccessful drive in 1996 to impeach President Alyaksandr Lukashenka, having first been imprisoned from 1998-2002.
Klimau was convicted and sentenced behind closed doors by a Minsk court on August 1.
