At Least 12 Reported Killed In U.S. Drone Strike In Northwest Pakistan

At least 12 people have been reported killed in a suspected U.S. unmanned drone strike targeting militants in Pakistan's northwestern tribal region near the Afghan border.

Reports quoting security and intelligence sources say the drone fired three missiles, hitting a compound in the North Waziristan district that is described as a zone where Taliban and Al-Qaeda-linked militants are known to operate.

Reports say both militants and civilians are suspected of being among the casualties from the August 23 strike.

Reports say the compound hit by the missiles may have been used by militants linked to the network of warlord Jalaluddin Haqqani, known for staging attacks on U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan.
