Former Iranian News Agency Chief Jailed

A Tehran court has sentenced the former head of the Iranian Labor News Agency to three months in prison and fined him 1.5 million rials ($167) after he was convicted of "spreading lies," the ISNA news agency reported.

Massud Heydari resigned as managing director of ILNA in July 2007, when the news agency was closed down following complaints by conservative circles for its critical reporting about President Mahmud Ahmadinejad's government. ILNA resumed operations earlier this month under new management.
