Nine security guards and seven Taliban fighters were reported killed in a gunfight in northern Afghanistan as NATO reports the deaths of five coalition soldiers in an insurgent attack in the east of the country on November 14.
The police chief of northern Kundiz province, Andul Rahman Sayedkhaili, told the French news agency AFP that the gunfight occurred when Taliban fighters attacked a police post guarding a telecommunications tower in the province.
Meanwhile, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force said five soldiers were killed in the attack in the east on November 14.
Initially, ISAF had said three soldiers were killed, but on November 14 raised the death toll to five. ISAF did not provide details on the attack.
Separately, two ISAF soldiers were killed in explosions in the south on November 14, making it the worst single day for foreign troops in a month.
