Russian Police Officers Jailed For Beating

KURGAN, Russia -- Two police officers in the central Russian city of Kurgan have each been sentenced to four years in jail for beating a local resident, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

The court established that the two officers, Aleksandr Burakov and Roman Kalugin, severely beat a man who had been detained for being drunk in a public place.

The police pled not guilty and called the charges against them groundless.

The two men are barred from working for any law enforcement agencies after serving their sentences.
