Russian Skinhead Sentenced To Nine Years For Killing Uzbek

YEKATERINBURG, Russia -- A Sverdlovsk Oblast court has sentenced a 17-year-old skinhead to nine years in prison, after a jury found him guilty of murder.

An official from the regional prosecutor's office told RFE/RL's Russian Service that four teenagers severely beat an Uzbek citizen in November 2007, and one of them stabbed the victim to death.

The other three suspects are awaiting trial, as they will be tried separately.

Last week a group of skinheads in Moscow were sentenced to prison terms of between two and 10 years for the deaths of 20 foreigners.

According to an independent group that monitors hate crimes in Russia, racially motivated attacks have claimed at least 86 lives this year.
