A rally in central Paris on September 5 voiced support for the plight of Afghanistan's women. An estimated 200 people, including expatriate Afghans and French supporters of aid groups, condemned the human rights violations reported from Afghanistan after the Taliban seized power in mid-August. Protesters waved Afghan flags and carried banners with slogans such as, "A humanitarian catastrophe is unfolding" and "Let's not abandon the Afghan people."
