Ahmadinejad Wants To Attend London Olympics

Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad

Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad says he wants to attend the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London to support Iranian athletes, but that Britain has a "problem" with hosting him.

Iran's official IRNA news agency quoted Ahmadinejad on May 17 as saying that he would like to be "with Iranian athletes" in London but that the British are reluctant to have him there.

He did not elaborate.

Britain and other western powers are in a dispute with Iran over its nuclear program, which the West suspects is aimed at producing an atomic weapon.

Iran denies the charge.

Britain withdrew its diplomatic staff from Tehran in 2011 after an Iranian crowd stormed the British embassy.
