Reports from Pakistan say gunmen have shot dead a Pakistani Taliban commander who was linked to a 2010 attack that killed almost 100 people.
On July 25, officials said Maulana Ashraf Marwat was killed the previous day in the Shaktoi area of the western South Waziristan tribal district, near the Afghan border.
Police say Marwat helped organize a 2010 attack in Shah Hasankhel village in the northwestern Lakki Marwat district, in which a truck packed with explosives was detonated at a volleyball tournament.
Marwat has been linked to Tehrek-e Taliban Pakistan -- an umbrella organization of small extremist factions.
He was reportedly involved in multiple feuds with political leaders from within his Marwat tribe.
He was also blamed in connection with numerous assassinations of moderate clerics, and extortion.
