Syrian state television says two bombs have hit security buildings in Damascus, killing several police officers and civilians, killing 27 people and wounding almost 100 others.
State TV said the casualties included police and civilians.
The blasts hit the criminal police headquarters and an office of Syria's intelligence services and were reportedly caused by vehicles packed with explosives.
Dozens of people were killed in three bombings in Damascus in December and January.
The latest blasts come two days after the first anniversary of the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad.
The UN-Arab League envoy on the Syrian crisis, Kofi Annan, has urged the Security Council to overcome its deadlock and unify to support his efforts to end the violence that has brought Syria to the brink of civil war.
