We seek a passionate and skilled News and Feature Reporter to join our team and contribute to our mission of delivering high-quality journalism to audiences worldwide.

As a News and Feature Reporter, you'll create original content for digital platforms under an editor's supervision. You'll pitch story ideas, show excellent storytelling & interviewing skills, and work closely with editors throughout the content creation process. You must have field reporting experience and be able to switch between breaking news and features. You'll produce text stories and visual and audio content, so experience with social media is desirable.

 

What you’ll accomplish: 

  • Pitch, report, and prepare original news and feature content for web, social media, television, and audio platforms under editorial guidance
  • Utilize excellent interviewing and storytelling skills to produce compelling journalistic content and participate in investigative reporting
  • Create content for evolving web and social media platforms and continuously learn new skills to adapt to changes in digital journalism
  • Collaborate closely with supervisory editors throughout the story development process
  • Undertake short-term news assignments and longer-term features, both as a field correspondent and from the bureau
  • Cultivate specialty beats and develop original sources within your areas of expertise.
  • Work efficiently, accurately, and collaboratively under deadline pressure while adhering to RFE/RL editorial standards
  • Foster a positive working environment and provide support to colleagues within and outside your team

Perform other related duties as assigned

What you bring: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a journalist with a strong reporting and editing background
  • Broad and detailed knowledge of political, economic, and social situations in the operating area and international affairs
  • Previous experience working in a multicultural or multinational environment preferred.
  • Good storytelling skills and experience in investigations
  • Knowledge of at least one specialty beat
  • Web and social media proficiency
  • Willingness to learn digital skills
  • Ability to work under deadlines
  • Familiarity with RFE/RL's mission and target area

 

Languages:

  • Fluent in Russian
  • Proficient in Georgian
  • Working knowledge of written and spoken English
